Carol Corps Meets Barbiecore!

Think pink! Win original art!

After taking an unwilling break last year thanks to an ill-timed case of COVID, I’ve once again submitted a cover to the annual art show/raffle at Carol & John’s Comic Shop in Cleveland, Ohio. (This year’s theme: “Marvel vs. DC.” They said “you can take that in any direction that you want,” and so I did. What can I tell you? The thought of Batman stuffed in the back of a pink convertible listening to women singing along to the Indigo Girls is hilarious to me.)

Last I heard, artists submitted a record 156 (!) comic book covers to the show, all of which are now on display at Carol & John’s, where they’ll be raffled off at 10:30PM during C&J’S annual holiday party on Saturday, December 16th.

As always, proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank; each dollar raised enables the Food Bank to create up to four full meals for food-insecure families.

If you’d like a chance to win my cover, or covers by renowned artists such as Len Peralta or Angela Oster, you can visit C&J’s in person between Wednesday, December 13th and Saturday, December 16th. To quote directly from the source, the “covers can be won in a basket raffle system where one dollar gets you one ticket to the cover of your choice (you can also buy six tickets for five dollars). Each cover has a number assigned to it, and we have a basket for each of those numbers. You buy the tickets, write your name on them, and place them in the basket(s) of the cover(s) you want to win. It’s that easy. (A classic basket raffle system, but we find it helpful to explain it each year.)”

If you live outside the Cleveland area, or can’t make it there in person, no worries, Carol & John’s got you covered. Again, quoting directly from the source, “[we] will post a gallery of the covers on Facebook by the evening of December 15th. You can then check out the gallery and buy tickets remotely by calling the shop with a credit card from noon until 6pm on Saturday, December 16th (216-252-0606). We will put the tickets towards the covers you want, so please have the numbers of the covers ready to go when you call. (You can also just call in a monetary donation and we’ll just throw your tickets in different random baskets.) We only do this on Saturday and winners will be responsible for local pick-up. (Or for paying to ship the cover.)”

Last year, money from the holiday art show created 24,900 meals; raising the show’s lifetime total to 140,608 meals. Buying raffle tickets supports families in need, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, Carol & John’s, and artists! Thanks so much in advance for your help!

P.S. If you happen to win my cover… look for the small bonus piece of original art on the inside cover!

If you enjoy my work, I hope you’ll consider donating via Ko-fi to help me keep creating. Thanks!
