The cover for Night Cats. The paper is Nepalese lokta paper, handmade & hand-printed (not by me!) with metallic stars, moons, and suns. I drew the Night Cats directly on the cover with Posca markers; the Lokta paper is kind of absorbent, which is why they look a little fuzzy. Their pose is cheerfully borrowed from the putti in Raphael’s Sistine Madonna.
Because I wanted the book to be portable, and because accordion books tend to pop open (especially if you get the paper grain going the wrong way, which I apparently did), I had to devise a wrap-around closure using thin gold cord and a vintage button. (The vintage button is actually attached to a smaller, plain button, to make an informal shank, around which the cord is wrapped.)
Materials: Art-C Accordion Book with Tin (book cover), Gold Sun, Moon, and Star on Black Handmade Paper; Posca paint markers, gold cord, vintage button.
