Carol and John’s Comic Book Shop, my local comic book store, has, for years, had a holiday art show where they invite local artists to create custom comic book covers based on a theme; they then raffle off the covers at their annual holiday party, with all proceeds going to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
Also, for years, I have mumbled about entering said show, and always managed not to, somehow.
But this year, my pal Ben at C&J’s, in his words, “threw down the challenge flag.” So, somehow — I am a notoriously slow worker — I got it done and submitted it in time, mirabile dictu.
This year’s theme was pretty general — “comic book character /Christmas movie mashup” — so I figured I’d go with Superman and Sheriff Ralphie for an all Cleveland-themed adventure.
All the covers will be on display Saturday, December 21st, 2019 from 10 am to 7 pm. (Usually the exhibit is held in a storefront in the same small plaza as C&J’s; ask at the shop if it’s not clear where it is.)
Winners of the raffle are announced during the holiday party, which starts at 8PM and lasts until around 11PM. Raffle tickets are $1, or alternatively, one food item suitable for donation to the Food Bank. You get to choose which cover your ticket is applied to, and you don’t have to be present to win!
