Observed at a major discount retailer: a woman with a gentle smile ambling up and down the party supplies aisle, selecting a variety of brightly colored plates, utensils, & c.
Her two daughters –pre-teen or early teens — wandered into the aisle. One wore a gold headband with a unicorn horn and a bright pink fake-fur forelock.
The woman selected a taco-shaped piñata from a shelf and silently handed it to the unicorned girl.
The girl, beaming, accepted it. “Tacos are my life,” she said, with a matter-of-fact, contented sigh.
I’m betting they all had a wonderful afternoon.
